Free School Meals6 March 2025 (by Ashlea Stevenson (ashlea)) |
On 31st March 2025, the Free School Meal (FSM) Transitional Protection will end and will revert to the old FSM System.
What Does this Mean for Parents?
If your child is currently in receipt of PP FSM, they will continue to receive this until the end of their school phase (Year 6/Year 11).
From 1st April 2025, this protection will no longer apply for any new applications and therefore if their circumstances change, their PP FSM will end.
In light of this, it has been recommended by the local authority that we reach out to parents to encourage any of you who may be eligible now who have not yet applied to do so before the end of March.
Whilst you may question why you need to apply when your child receives a meal anyway, it is important to emphasise the school benefits from additional funding which allows the school to support any PP child who has been identified as requiring additional support to close gaps in their learning. Schools are also able to offer financial help with residential help if your child is in receipt of Pupil Premium.
All parents of Year 6 pupils will need to reapply for a PP FSM before your child starts Secondary School in September. It is advisable that you will need to reapply before the start of the new academic year in September.
If you require any help applying for Free School Meals, please contact the school office with your date of birth and national insurance number and we will be able to help you.
