Please note that Reception Allen Class Parent/Teacher Consultation Evening will only be on Thursday 27th March 2025 from 3:40pm - 6:50pm. 

At R J Mitchell Primary School we hold ‘Termly Learning Conferences’ (TLCs) instead of the traditional parents’ consultation. TLCs are a three-way conversation between parents, pupils and the teacher about the progress and learning of your child. You will need to attend the TLC with your child. 

We believe that children who understand themselves as learners will make better progress and achieve more.  The TLC is designed to develop a shared language for learning between pupils, their parents and their teachers.  The TLC also provides an opportunity to identify factors which help or hinder progress and achievement.  As a result, parents and carers are better informed about how they can support their child’s learning.  In this way, TLCs complement and nurture a supportive and helpful partnership with parents and carers.

Please make your way to your child’s classroom with your child. Once you’re outside the classroom, please use this time to look through your child’s books until the teacher calls you in. The appointment slots are 10 minutes long. Teachers are encouraged to stick to this time schedule to prevent long delays for other parents.  If you require longer than this, please see your child’s class teacher to arrange another appointment at a later date.  

Regular communication between parents/carers and members of staff is vital.  If you have a particular worry, concern or question about your child at any point in the term, please do not hesitate to speak to your child’s teacher.  This will enable us to address any issues immediately, rather than waiting for the TLC where there is only a limited time to discuss your child’s learning. 

If your child is in Hillary, Bennett, Freeborn, Franklin 1 and Franklin 2 classes, you will be booking an appointment directly with staff and these will take place half termly starting after half term.
